Fighting for an Unwinning Battle
Throughout reading the chapters, I have seen a trend that is happening, there are always people fighting for something. Was there ever a time when we weren't fighting?! People have always thought what they believe in, what color skin they have, what language they speak, and clothing they wear was always better than the other persons. Why is that? How come we can't just respect the other culture and embrace what they have to bring to the melting pot? We were all put on the Earth for a reason and that reason is honestly to reproduce, not to fight! We are suppose to be making a nice and friendly environment for the future, but what kind of future were they making for us? One that is based on things that really don't even matter, I understand race and ethnicity will always be there, but what for? Its just something to pick at. It just makes me upset to read that little children had to pick up a gun to protect themselves because they were Native American. What did they do so wrong, mind their own business? Shocking.

I am going to agree with everything in this blog. I too can't quite grasp the concept of why there are people who discriminate for the simplest of things. Who cares where your from, how you dress, the accent you speak with, or any of the other differences? It should not matter. We are all the same one way or another. There will always be race and discrimination, thats a way out for people. It sucks and certainly not nice, but thats kind of how it is. Can't change how we work but we can all try.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree, everyboday is always fighting for things in history and even today. It is a never ending cycle for people to try and prove who is better than who. And it is so annoying, people shouldn't have to try and be better than anyone else because everyone is equal. For example in history women have always had to prove they are equal to men because they were always thought of homemakers and unable to provide for their family. It shouldn't make what gender you are or what race, ethnicity, or religion you follow. We are all human beings who deserve the same opportunities in life. Nice blog entry it is an eye opener and is very true. What is so shocking to me is how relevant this currently is, people are still fighting for rights and equality here in Wisconsin. It is simply a never ending cycle...and what can we do to stop it? As long as each person can stand up and change their attitude it can help make a difference.
ReplyDeleteIt is discouraging to see prejudice, discrimination and injustice in so many places. Yet there is some evidence of progress, too. What is of interest to me are case studies: actual examples of the persistence of racist attitudes and institutions (on the negative side), as well as evidence of change. The U.S. military's designation of Bin Laden as "Geronimo" is one example of insidious racism.
